Save A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table

Highly unique, heartfelt, enjoyable and packed with an amazing array of delectable recipes. A Homemade Life is, in essence, a recipe book overflowing with recipes wrapped within love and tales of family and warmth. The way in which Ms. Wizenberg writes, sharing recollections from the past and thoughts of the present, is simply delightful. Reading this book is like sharing a cup of coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls that are warm, sticky and gooey, at the kitchen table, with a dear friend. Written in a way that is chatty, informative, heart-warming and addictive, A Homemade Life is a book that will appeal to lovers of food, lovers of a great story and all those in-between. Readers will smile, laugh, sigh and wipe the drool from their mouth as they learn about Molly Wizenberg's lovely family and their shared love for all that is food.

One such instance, that will bring a smile, is Ms. Wizenberg's take on happiness. (excerpt from page 189)

"The word happiness has many definitions. For some, it involves cotton candy and peopies and babies that coo. For others, it involves ice cream, reruns of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and warm sun on your face in early March. I'm quite certain, thought, that if you looked it up in one of those visual dictionaries, what you'd see is a pan of slow-roasted tomatoes."

For whatever reason, each time I reread this paragraph, it just makes me smile. This is also just a teasing taste of what A Homemade Life holds in store. Complete with recipe index at the back of the book, for easy food finding (including everything from Ms. Wizenberg's Father's famous potato salad to custard-filled corn bread), Discussion Questions and a Conversation with Molly Wizenberg, herself, A Homemade Life has it all! What a fun book club choice - as well as discussing the engrossing personal tales within, each member could make different dishes to share among the group!

Molly Wizenberg is the creator of the blog Orangette and a perfect example of what can happen when you are truly awesome at what you do. Though I have not previously checked out Orangette, it will be one blog that I will be sure to visit often, to keep up on the happenings in the author's life as she shares more of herself, her family and her mouth-watering recipes.

Whether for a wedding/shower gift, Mother's Day gift, birthday, or a little pick-me-up gift, A Homemade Life is the perfect way to show thoughtfulness to friends and family - and don't forget to pick up a copy for yourself!!
